What to expect from a hypnotherapy and hypnosis session

What to expect from a hypnotherapy session

“Hypnotherapy is probably the kindest, quickest and most effective form of personal therapy available. A session of hypnotherapy is as comfortable and easy as a cosy chat with your best friend”

The first thing to understand about hypnotherapy is that at no point do you lose control; you will be fully aware throughout the whole experience and the process is designed to put you at ease and make you comfortable. Hypnotherapy is actually quite a relaxing and pleasant experience.

It starts with a preliminary chat to identify and clarify the problem and then you will be made comfortable in a reclining chair at which point the treatment begins. It usually follows one of two approaches depending on the nature of the problem:

Suggestion therapy (Hypnotic Suggestion) –  which involves introducing and implanting positively phrased ideas/suggestions to bring about the desired behaviour.
Analytical Therapy (Hypno-Analysis) – identifying the underlying cause and resolving it by releasing the negative beliefs/emotions,  that in itself then resolves the symptoms.

Suggestion therapy typically involves just 1 or 2 sessions.

Hypno-Analysis typically involves a course of treatment, and is really a very powerful form of psychotherapy – though usually goes much deeper and achieves results much more quickly, than traditional methods.

Once we get started, you will be asked to close your eyes and allow your mind to focus on some ideas that will help you relax.  You will barely notice the transition to hypnosis and most people find it a liberating, enlightening and reassuring experience. A brief chat afterwards to sum up and that’s all there is to it.

Which one do you need – Hypnotic-Suggestion or Hypno-Analysis?

Hypnotic Suggestion is best suited for changing habits, such as Stopping SmokingNail-biting, Hair-Pulling (Trichotillomania) and so on, or a quick confidence booster for public speaking or such like.

Hypno-Analysis is best suited where there are emotional driving forces involved – Eating Disorders, Anxiety, Low Self-Esteem and so on.

But there is a natural crossover between the two, we end up using both to some extent, and it is usually fairly obvious when we meet, which one you need most.
